Purnell Wright

Our Founder

Our Friend that needs a kidney received Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at a young age and was baptized at Second Baptist Church in Moorestown, NJ in 1976 by the late Rev. Dr. Dennis E. Norris. He was an active participant within the youth ministry while at Second Baptist Church.

In 1992, he became a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Lindenwold, NJ under the pastorate of Bishop David G. Evans. It was here he found his love for working with young people as he diligently served as the youth minister for 14 years. Our Friend that needs a Kidney’s passion and personality for working with young people was infectious. This was evident as the Youth Wednesday Night Bible Study and Super Church grew under his tutelage from 175 to well over 2000 young people during his tenure. Our Friend that needs a Kidney indeed has a heart for youth. In addition to serving as the youth minister, he was a member of the missionary board and nurses’ ministry.

In 1995, while conducting ministry at Bethany Baptist Church, Our Friend that needs a Kidney accepted his call to the ministry. The vision that God gave him is Victory In Praise Ministries, “a beyond the wall ministry,” that is purposed in fulfilling the “Great Commission” (St. Matthew 28:19-20). While continuing to work with other ministries, this remains his core focus.

In 2007, Our Friend that needs a Kidney served as the youth minister at Siloam Baptist Church in Norristown, Pa. under the leadership of Rev. John H. West III. After two years of serving the youth and members of Siloam, Our Friend that needs a Kidney was challenged to answer the call to move into full-time ministry. By the leading of the Holy Spirit, Our Friend that needs a Kidney stepped out on faith and accepted that challenge. Victory In Praise Ministries found its home at CLC Bookstore in Moorestown, NJ. In 2011, God blessed the ministry with more space at The Echelon Mall Ministry in Voorhees, NJ where the ministry is currently located.

In knowing that the Word of God instructs us to do all things decently and in order (I Corinthians 14:40) and in praying that the Lord would send the ministry “spiritual leaders” who would guide, instruct, and be a bountiful blessing to Victory In Praise Ministries, God sent two angels to do just that and more. Pastors Nathaniel and Delores Jamison received the ministry with open arms and became our Pastors and the spiritual covering. Our Friend that needs a Kidney serves as a member of the ministerial staff, leadership team and is charged with the development of the couple’s ministry at CFCNP.

Our Friend that needs a Kidney also serves as a member of the Board of Directors for My Father’s House Ministry under the leadership of Pastor Donshae Joyner.

His love for serving God’s people and youth are not only limited to local communities, but it extends beyond the local community. He travels quarterly to The Way of The Cross Worship Center in Conway, SC where Pastor John Blaine is the Overseer, to minister the Word of God and assist with the youth.

Our Friend that needs a Kidney is a graduate of Stockton College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing.

Our Friend that needs a Kidney hold credentials as a Financial Service Professional designing tax-free retirement plans, conducting workshops in the area financial literacy, stewardship, and employability skills, based upon biblical principles. He enjoys the hours spent as a personal coach for selective individuals.

He is happily married to Alicia Wright of 18 years, who co-laborers with him in the ministry.

When time allows he enjoys traveling, cycling and helping other people where they might have special needs.

One thing has I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple. (Ps. 27:4 KJV)
